Community Mobilization with street theatre Approach

Advocacy and community awareness campaigns
Community-based public awareness campaigns :
YWCA Rwanda especially celebrates 16 Days of Activism & International Day of the Girl child. With public awareness campaigns, YWCA is attracting positive attitudes targeting the couples living in conflicts. Through the use of role models/ nonviolent husbands testimonies inspire other husbands who are still perpetrating domestic violence in their households. Engaging men/boys in the process and challenging traditional masculinities is of the utmost importance for sustaining lasting behavioral change to break the generational cycle of gender based violence and domestic violence and therefore contribute to the overall advancement of gender equality. YWCA Rwanda also organizes advocacy campaigns and mainly targets the local leaders at village, cell, sector and district levels to encourage them to respond to the issues of GBV and domestic violence, to raise their commitment to the prevention of GBV and domestic violence, to take action vis-a-vis GBV and Domestic violence prevention as well as GBV cases reporting and that the victims can be granted their rights as prescribed by the laws and policies already in place in Rwanda, to mobilize the stakeholders to work together to respond to gender based violence and domestic violence.
